Monthly Update for September

Gosh – where do the months go!! The year is passing by so quickly – Summer is over and Autumn officially started on the 23rd.
This month it has been extremely busy – we had 157 referrals. . Both Steve and Jeff visited and secured the homes of 98 people, 50 of these were victims of crime. 13 of these lived in Cambridge City and 13 in Peterborough. A number of these victims had been burgled using tools found in the homeowners shed or garage. I did write a blog about this a few weeks ago reminding people to secure their sheds and garages.
We also visited and secured the homes of 19 domestic abuse victims.

We are delighted to have started working in partnership with the Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service and now, on all our visits, we carry out a home fire security check and fit smoke alarms, if necessary.
As well as securing peoples’ homes, we also fit keysafes to allow people to remain in their own homes. This month we fitted 17 keysafes.

We had our quarterly Trustee meeting at the beginning of the month. Jeff attended the Eye Friendship club to give a talk about the scheme. Steve went to the Ely Police open day, and also gave talks to the Carers Support Group in Sawston and the new Dementia Café in Ely. I gave a talk to the staff at the police Victims’ Hub which opened on October 1st. Here the staff will help support anyone affected by a crime. For more information about the Hub please go onto the Cambridgeshire Police website http://www.cambs.police.uk
