Any doubt, keep them out

A gentleman living alone answered the door to a young man who was selling dusters. The man asked to use the bathroom as it was a man in the house and he did not like to ask any females.  After he left a wallet had been stolen which was in his trousers in the bathroom.

We gave the gentleman advice about cold callers, fitted window and door alarms, a door chain and spy hole.  Because he had carers visit him, the front door was unlocked all day.  We therefore fitted a keysafe so the carers could let themselves in and the door locked.

Crime Prevention Tip :  Never assume people who cold call at your door are who they say they are.  Keep front and back doors locked, look through a spy hole or window to see who it is.  Put the door chain on and check their identity. If there are any doubts, never let someone into your home.
